What is Nutritional Immunology?

Our immune system is the best doctor on earth!
Nutritional Immunology (NI) is a science that studies the link between nutrition and the immune system. The immune system is made up of several organs akin to an army of soldiers within us. An immune system which is well nourished with superfoods will be able to 1) defend against diseases, 2) cleanse away toxins and 3) repair the cells. Western medications are often prescribed to relieve symptoms of an illness (e.g. paracetamol to suppress fever) but only the immune system is the body’s true doctor!

 

We are what we eat..
Nutritional Immunology (NI) does not focus on our need for basic nutrients like carbohydrates, proteins, essential fats, vitamins and minerals which are already plentiful in this modern day and age. Many people are of the impression that they are eating well as they have access to all these basic nutrients as compared to 50 years ago during their grandparents era. However, have you notice and wonder why the increasing trend of people falling sick to diseases (e.g. cancer, stroke) despite easy access to these basic nutrients?
